Figures drawn in pencil, sketched proudly alongside;
Words soon forgotten, the capital of MI
A monster with teeth bared, chomping on the OK state;
A giraffe with spots so fair, drinking from The Great Lakes
But when this graphite elephant stomps through the Midwest,
Do not fear; we'll set sail on a ship I built with markers of lemon scent.
And they cry, “Come back!"
They all cry, "Come back!"
They say.
"Come back!" they all cry, "Come back!"
Too late.
Across the Strait of Magellan colored a deep chartreuse
To a transatlantic pen-inked refuge;
My own Bermuda triangle, with four sides, where found
Native narwhals swimming laps
Round and round and round,
And they cry,
"Come back, you've come back, hooray!"
"Come back, you've come back, to stay!"
To be ten years old and undefeated, to stay in my head unimpeded.
